It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like…

We were very excited to officially write a December date on the whiteboard today! We started our Advent Calendar as well as our Class Kindness Calendar (we even came up with the kind ideas for each day ourselves). We’re going to share our Kindness Calendar with the rest of the school at Monday’s assembly. We’re also going to be singing this lovely, Christmassy song! It’s very catchy and we’re sure you’ll love it at home too.

Categorising Animals

Posted on

We’ve been focusing on categorising animals in Geography recently. We discussed how we might describe what an animal is and discovered that it’s actually very difficult to describe ‘an animal’ without talking a bout a specific type! We learned about vertebrates, invertebrates, mammals, reptiles, fish, birds and amphibians. We then learned to use a key to help us figure out which category different animals fit into. Check out our hard work below 🙂

Mo Sheomra Codlata

3rd Class have been working very hard on their Gaeilge this week and have been learning all about different parts of the house. We focused on bedrooms and learned about different ways we could describe our rooms. We practised writing sentences out independently and then also drew some pictures to illustrate our descriptions. 3rd Class did so brilliantly with it and their copybook work is excellent. Maith sibh Rang a Trí!

Procedural Writing

Posted on

Over the last few weeks, we have been learning about Procedural Writing. Procedural Writing is when we write instructions explaining how to do something eg. a recipe, a game, a sport or even directions. We made sure to use imperative verbs (bossy verbs), lists of equipment, materials or ingredients, and we write clear steps in the correct order in the method.

Check out our work below… we wrote a procedure explaining how to make a smoothie. Then we tested our procedure by following our instructions to make smoothies in groups. Luckily our instructions were excellent and we all enjoyed some tasty smoothie! Can you spot the smoothie moustache?

We also worked independently or in pairs to complete some procedure task cards. We worked hard and made super progress!

Oíche Shamhna

Bhí Rang a Trí ag obair go dian ar an téama Oíche Shamhna! D’fhoghlaim siad an dán seo ‘Oíche Shamhna’. Bhí siad go hiontach! (3rd class have been working really hard on the theme of Halloween! They learned this poem ‘Halloween’. They were brilliant!)

We also practised talking about Halloween and the different things we really like about this time of year. Check out our video below where we all share (as Gaeilge) our favourite things about Halloween!

Yayoi Kusama

We learned all about a contemporary pop artist called Yayoi Kusama. Yayoi Kusama is originally from Japan and she lived for a while in New York! Her parents did not want her to be an artist when she was younger so she had to work very hard to convince them to allow her pursue her dreams. Kusama’s art is always FULL of polka dots and she is even nicknamed The Polka Dot Princess! Check out this video about her here:

We were very inspired by her artwork and decided to recreate some polka dot art ourselves! Here we are working on our polka dot pumpkins and then showing off our finished pieces! We used printing materials to create the polka dots and then an oil pastel on black paper to design our backgrounds. we hope you enjoy having them as a Halloween decoration at home over the next week!

Maths Week 2023

Posted on

We are celebrating Maths Week this week and we’ve started off in style with some fun maths stations! In our groups we worked on spotting ‘Which One Doesn’t Belong’ in a group of letters, shapes or numbers. We found that each of the letters, numbers and shapes didn’t belong, but for lots of different reasons. We also played some maths games on our iPads using QR codes to find the websites. We used tangrams (an ancient Chinese puzzle made up of 7 different shapes) to build some interesting images and complete puzzles. Finally we used counters to try and some some tricky triangle and square pattern puzzles! Here we are enjoying maths this week:

Lovely Lines!

Posted on

This month we continued our study of the elements of art when we explored ‘line’ together. Once we had experimented with different types of lines, we used this knowledge to create beautiful and interesting lines which look just like flowers! We created a very unique background by colouring splodges, lines and patterns using markers onto the shiny side of some tinfoil, then we sprayed some water on it and printed the colour onto our pages! We were amazed by the results!

An Fógrachlár Gaeilge

Posted on

This month, we have been the class chosen to display some Gaeilge work on the school Gaeilge noticeboard. We are very proud of our work – we wrote profiles all about ourselves and our families. We included some key words and phrases which we learned in class and took part in some shared writing as well as independent writing to complete this task. Check out the Gaeilge board below!
