It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like…

We were very excited to officially write a December date on the whiteboard today! We started our Advent Calendar as well as our Class Kindness Calendar (we even came up with the kind ideas for each day ourselves). We’re going to share our Kindness Calendar with the rest of the school at Monday’s assembly. We’re also going to be singing this lovely, Christmassy song! It’s very catchy and we’re sure you’ll love it at home too.

Maths Week 2023

We are celebrating Maths Week this week and we’ve started off in style with some fun maths stations! In our groups we worked on spotting ‘Which One Doesn’t Belong’ in a group of letters, shapes or numbers. We found that each of the letters, numbers and shapes didn’t belong, but for lots of different reasons. We also played some maths games on our iPads using QR codes to find the websites. We used tangrams (an ancient Chinese puzzle made up of 7 different shapes) to build some interesting images and complete puzzles. Finally we used counters to try and some some tricky triangle and square pattern puzzles! Here we are enjoying maths this week:

Rev. Kevin Came to Visit!

Last week, Rev. Kevin came to visit us in school because we wanted to ask him a few questions about All, Saints, St. John’s and his job! We prepared our questions for him in advance and he definitely needed to have his thinking cap on! He gave us lots of fantastic information about the churches and his job. After he answered all our questions, we performed our assembly song for him!

Our Assembly!

Last week it was our turn to lead assembly for the whole school. We did a wonderful job! On Monday, we shared some Irish writing we had been working on all about ourselves. We focused on how unique we all are. On Wednesday we shared our class timeline with the school. We focused on how unique our own personal history is, and you can see us presenting this in the photos below. On Friday we shared some of our favourite stories from the Bible. We focused on how we all chose different stories for different reasons. We all spoke so confidently and clearly, and we taught the whole school a new song! It’s linked below. Ms. Sheridan was very proud of us!

The Big Dig!

We had a wonderful time in St. Anne’s Park on Friday at The Big Dig! We learned the difference between ecofacts and artefacts and got to have a look at some really cool Viking finds. Did you know an ecofact is a find which was natural e.g. a bone or a skull, and an artefact is a find which was man made e.g. a weapon, cooking utensil or dish? We then got a chance to be archaeologists ourselves and learned how to use a knee pad, bucket, finds tray, shovel and trowel to excavate the earth and look for interesting ecofacts or artefacts.

We also had a chance to go and see the real archaeological site at the old Guinness Mansion at the end of the avenue. We got to see some real artefacts which have been found from the Guinness Mansion and even found out that Queen Victoria visited the mansion at one stage!

Of course no trip to St. Anne’s Park is complete without a picnic and a trip to the playground! We had so much fun but some VERY tired legs coming back to school!

We Love Hockey!

We have been very lucky to have some fantastic hockey coaches coming to school each Wednesday to teach us some serious hockey skills! Today we learned about dribbling and defending. We had great fun and are looking forward to next week’s session!

Roald Dahl Day!

This week we celebrated Roald Dahl Day! Roald Dahl Day is celebrated on the 13th September each year because it’s his birthday. We sang Happy Birthday to Roald Dahl and discussed our favourite characters and stories written by him. We learned a little bit about his life too. Did you know that he was born in Wales and his parents were from Norway? He also worked as a spy, a fighter pilot, a chocolate historian and a medical inventor at different stages of his life!

Here were are taking part in our Roald Dahl Book Tasting. We had lots of fun getting to try out some of his different books. We had never heard of some of them. After that, we chatted about what we enjoyed about the books.

This week we also spent some time talking about Dahl’s book ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’. We realised that George was being a scientist when he was creating his potion for his Granny. We decided to do our own experiment and made Lava Lamps! We used water, food colouring, vegetable oil and salt to make them. We learned that oil and water are immiscible liquids. This means they can’t be mixed together! Check us out below:
